The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay 2013 will once again bring together more than 1,000 runners, in over 100 teams, to fight it out for the ultimate bragging rights across the unique one-mile course within the heart of the City.
Last year, at the end of an incredible night, the 2010 champions Barclays snatched back their crown with a time of 51 minutes 12 seconds, beating Legal and General into second place by just 44 seconds.
Along with the coveted trophy, the winning team were presented with a cheque for £5,000 to their designated charity, the Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre (MSRC).
Runners were cheered on by huge crowds in the Guildhall, including London 2012 Olympic heroes Mark Hunter, Tom James and Alex Partridge and three-time Paralympic medallist Liz Johnson - the official starters of the 2012 edition.
The fastest individual runner – showing the Olympians that London's City workers can hold their own in elite sport – was David Nightingale of Capstone, with a remarkable time of 4 minutes 36 seconds.
The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay's famous course will be as exciting as ever in 2013. Designed with the competitive nature of our participants in mind, runners will twist and turn their way around the one-mile route racing up the 'Steps to Success,' across ‘Bannister's Bridge,' down 'Stelvio Pass,' past the 'Chariots of Water,' into 'Mo 'Flower's' Garden,' through the 'Mini Mall,' round 'Champagne Corner' and toward the finish line before handing the baton on to their next teammate in one of the most picturesque and prestigious squares in the capital.
